YouTuber Jreg challenged me to create a music video for his song It's Fine (Denial) within a single week. I wrote and pitched the story of Jreg’s character as a contestant on a reality TV show, who gets rejected by a strangely shaped woman he's obsessed with.

Animatic Approach

Originally, I planned to animate the entire video in 3D, but realized it wouldn’t be feasible within a week. Instead, I created a polished animatic using Blender’s grease pencil feature, focusing on appealing character poses and storytelling efficiency.

IRL Reveal and Handmade Plushie

Stepping outside my comfort zone, I included a live-action sequence at the end revealing that the whole story is Jreg playing with Play-Doh characters. By having Jreg wear googly eyes, I mirrored his live-action self with his animated character.

On the morning of the shoot, I had the spontaneous idea to include a handmade plushie of Jreg’s heart. I cut and sewed the felt pieces together while riding the train to the studio.
